How to shop more consciously this Black Friday - and get the best deals

How to shop for the right things:

We all know how hard it is to resist a good bargain around black friday, and ,especially, how easy it is to buy things we don’t need or that don’t match our style or wardrobe that much just because… “It’s so much cheaper than usual! 😭”. During BF days we are literally bombarded with ads, reviews, influencer posts that literally create need you subconsciously know we don’t actually need.

This is something you’ve been preaching for a long time now, but we all need to start making more conscious choices, for the sake of our planet and our wallets! And yes, let’s not be hypocritical about it … it’s still smart to shop for things that are part of your wishlist for too long now.

To help you stay on track this Black Friday, and be as conscious as you can, we’ve put together a list of questions to consider before hitting “add to cart”:

  • Does this match anything I already own, or will I need to buy something else to style it?

  • Does it really suit my style and do I identify with the piece?

  • Is the brand ethical, and do they use sustainable materials and/or production processes?

  • Is this something I’m genuinely missing in my wardrobe?

  • Am I only buying this just because it has a gigantic discount?

Extra tips for shopping smarter ( this black friday and all year round):

Shopping smart isn’t just about saving money—it’s about making thoughtful decisions that align with your lifestyle, values, and long-term needs. Here are some detailed tips to help you shop wisely, not just on Black Friday, but especially:

  • Invest in timeless pieces and avoid trends

Timeless pieces are wardrobe staples that never go out of style, are highly versatile, and can be worn for years to come. Think of classic items like a well-tailored blazer, a versatile pair of jeans, or an everyday knitwear. When choosing these pieces, prioritise quality over quantity, look for durable fabrics, excellent craftsmanship, and designs that are built to last. High-quality items may cost more upfront, but they’ll save you money in the long run by enduring regular wear without losing their shape, colour, or overall appeal.

By investing in timeless, high-quality pieces, you’ll build a wardrobe that remains relevant season after season. Trendy items, on the other hand, often have a short shelf life, are usually made with lower-quality materials, and may feel outdated quickly, leading to more waste and regretful purchases. Opting for quality ensures you have clothing that looks and feels great for years while also reducing unnecessary consumption.

  • Stick to colours you wear often

When shopping, focus on colours that complement your existing wardrobe and that you feel comfortable wearing. Neutral tones like black, white, grey, and beige are versatile and easy to pair, but this could also include your favourite statement colours that make you feel confident. By sticking to a cohesive palette, you’ll avoid the frustration of buying items that don’t match anything you own.

  • Use Black Friday discounts to buy Christmas gifts for your loved ones.

Buying gifts during sales helps you avoid the last-minute holiday rush, reducing both stress and overspending. Focus on choosing something meaningful, something from the heart that the recipient can cherish and enjoy for years to come.

  • Before Black Friday, take a thorough look at your closet to identify what’s missing and what you already own. Create a list of the items you need and research different brands to find those that align with your preferences. This way, when the sales begin, you’ll be prepared and know exactly what to buy.

  • Research brands that align with your values

With sustainability becoming increasingly important, take the time to research brands that align with your ethical and environmental values. Look for small companies that prioritise fair labour practices, use sustainable materials, and create high-quality products that last. By supporting such brands, you contribute to a more responsible fashion industry.

  • Prepare for sales strategically

Instead of diving into sales impulsively, be strategic. Once you’ve identified what you need, compare brands, and look for the best quality options that meet your criteria. Having a clear plan means you’ll head into sales with purpose, reducing the temptation to buy items just because they’re heavily discounted.

By incorporating these tips into your shopping habits, you’ll make better purchases that align with your needs and values. Smart shopping not only saves money but also helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable lifestyle. It’s a win for you, your wallet, and the planet.

Let your motto this Black Friday be the classic wisdom we’ve all heard from our moms: “It's better to have a few high-quality pieces than a lot of mediocre ones”.

If you choose to follow our tips, you’re certainly in for a more conscious shopping experience! It’ll help you save money and stay mindful of the impact fast fashion has on our planet.

Truly hope you could help you with these tips and can't wait to see what you'll get this BF!
